said he has performed autopsies on some residents who were never diagnosed with H1N1, but actually had it.”In the autopsy, what we’re seeing is very heavy, wet hemorrhagic lungs, lungs with a lot of blood in them,” said Dr. Gregory Schmunk.He said the official count of seven H1N1 deaths is inaccurate, but patient rights laws prohibit him from giving specific numbers.He said there are two reasons for the discrepancy. First, not all sick patients get tests and second, the virus is difficult to detect. Some patients may be too sick to receive the most accurate H1N1 test.

He also pointed out that it is vital for people to get the flu shot when it is available, and for people who are sick to stay home, since one sick person at work can infect 10 others.

This may be the H1N1 variant that has been ravaging people in Ukraine, Norway, and now starting in China. Well over 1.6 million people have been infected in Ukraine alone in the last few weeks, and many are dying of hemorrhagic pneumonia. It has been reported that many of the dead victims had black lungs that had been totally destroyed in a matter of a couple of days. This is believed by some researchers to be caused by the receptor binding domain change, D225G, which was also identified in the 1918 and 1919 Spanish flu pandemic that killed many millions of people, as reported in a recent posting at recombinomics.

Betsy McKay: I just wanted to follow-up on the question about the mutation in norway.  I wondered if you could talk a little bit more about is it possible that this mutation has produced a more virulent form and what has CDC uncovered through its own work?

Anne Schuchat: this mutation has been seen sporadically here and there around the world.  Sometimes it’s been seen in patients who had very mild disease and sometimes it’s been seen in people who had more severe or fatal disease.  And, of course, lots of virus without this mutation has been seen in the fatal as well as the milder forms of H1N1 influenza.  There’s some theoretical reasons why this particular mutation might lead an influenza virus to live easier in the deep part of the lungs and cause lower respiratory infections, but we’ve actually seen lower respiratory infections in a severe viral pneumonia without this mutation.  So I think it’s too soon to say what this will mean long term.  It’s an important finding and they’re looking into it, but I don’t think it has the public health implications that we would wonder about.  Did you have a second question?  Oh, what have we seen so far?  I believe it’s been seen in the U.S. But associated with mild disease.  I believe.  I might need to verify that.  Do we have another from the room?  Okay.  We’ll go back to the phone.

The above comments are from the latest CDC update and regard the receptor binding domain change, D225G, which has recently been reported in Ukraine and Norway.  This change was also identified in 1918 and 1919 fatal lung cases and the change has been targeted in receptor binding domain studies.  These studies showed that the 1918 H1N1 with D225G was able to bind to gal alpha 2,3 and gal alpha 2,6, in contrast to the 1918 sequences with wild type D225, which targeted alpha 2,6.

Recent studies have also demonstrated that alpha 2,3 receptors are on alveolar epithelial type II cells, which regulate lung surface tension as well as immunological defenses which include the release of cytokines.  Binding of H1N1 to these cells could have significant clinical implications, which is supported by the recently published sequences which identifies D225G in lung and trachea samples form fatally infected patients.  The cases in Ukraine were also linked to hemorrhagic disease and the CDC sent out a warning on such cases due to sporadic reports in the United States.

The above figures from the latest daily update from the Ukraine Ministry of Health support a decline in the rate of increases of cases and deaths, but the total is now almost 400 fatalities (see map).  The spread was likely slowed by the country-wide closing of schools along with warmer weather.  However, it is likely that the virus will return as temperatures drop and the traditional flu season begins, although it is unclear if seasonal flu will be in circulation in 2010.

The receptor binding domain change, D225G, was in four of four sequence from fatal cases, raising concerns that the 2,3 alpha specificity of D225G drove the H1N1 to the lungs and the total destruction.  Three patients in Norway were said to also have D225G, and two of the three died while the third had been in serious condition.  25 HA sequences from Norway were deposited at Genbank, but only one had D225G, and it was a mixture.  In Brazil both patients with D225G in lung samples had died, and the case in China had been in serious condition.

This is a critical situation that must be closely monitored. Up until now, H1N1 has been pretty mild, but it does seem to be mutating to a much more virulent variety. Also, there has been a lot of evidence of people who had previously had H1N1, earlier in the year, being re-infected. This is further evidence of mutations of the virus.

We are doomed!

Anyway, the government announced, in September, that they were on top of the problem. Don’t worry, we will protect you! (“CDC: H1N1 flu vaccine to be ready by early October“) Now, we are told that the flu vaccine will not be available for at least another few weeks. So far, only 15 million doses have been made available. To make matters worse, I have heard that you need two injections to get full immunity. (This may have changed; I’m not sure.) Obviously, the quantity of injections necessary to attain true immunity will not happen before the end of the year, if it even occurs  by then. In the mean time, swine flu infections have skyrocketed. As the graphs show, the rate of infection, and the number of deaths,  in the United States, have risen dramatically in the last few weeks. The reaction of the Obama administration has been to declare a national emergency. What else would you expect? They mismanage a known threat, and then declare a national emergency to deal with their mismanagement. But, it is even more sinister. Once a national emergency is declared, the federal government can do pretty much whatever it wants, to “lessen the effect of the emergency”.

If you have not set up your life in such a way that you can live without leaving your home for at least 12 to 20 weeks, you had better be prepared to live in a government compound of some sort. Perhaps the declaration of a national emergency is the forerunner to Obama activating his “Civilian National Security Force“.   It is possible, maybe likely, that most, if not all, essential services may go away if swine flu really takes off, forcing people to stay home either because they are sick, or they fear getting sick. If that happens, stores will not have food, since there will be few working truckers to deliver it, and power and other essential services may fail, or be highly unreliable, since there will be far fewer people to maintain and service the vital infrastructures. We all saw how well the government cared for  people during hurricane Katrina. The painful fact is that the only, real, purpose of the government is to provide for the defense and safety of the people. But, as we have seen in many natural disasters, including Katrina, the government is not prepared to protect the people, and it has no intention to do so, unless putting everyone in a detention center is the government’s way of “caring”. (You had better believe that it does have plans to protect itself, however.)  If you are not personally prepared to “weather the storm”, by having  enough food and other essentials on hand to stay home for several months, you may be in trouble.

One other interesting aside. I had started to hear that because of the hype of the swine flu, many people were rushing to get their seasonal flu shots. While this might be good, in one way, it is bad in another. I got my seasonal flu shot around the middle of October, and was told that the store would run out of flu seasonal flu shots the following day. While they normally get two allocations of seasonal flu shots, so they can give the shots through February, they are done for the season, and it was only mid October. They cannot get any more seasonal flu shots, because the supplies have run out. Personally, I don’t normally even think about getting a flu shot until November or early December, and I know a lot of other people are like me in that respect. If you have not gotten your seasonal flu shot by now, chances are you will not be able to get one. So, we could end up in a situation where many more people than usual get the seasonal flu, since many people who should have gotten the shot probably did not, since many people who probably were not at high risk got the shot, instead, due to the panic instigated by the government. Thus, clearly the government mismanaged the situation by not anticipating the needed quantity of seasonal flu shots.

Thus, here you have more evidence of government mismanagement. And, taking over health care is, after all, about management. Do you really want an organization that has proven itself, time after time, to be totally incompetent, managing the entire health care system?

We are doomed!

An interesting note is that Richard Reid, the “shoe bomber”, was apparently the second attempt at using a shoe bomb, according to several sources, including Yossef Bodansky. (1). In his book, “Chechan Jihad”, Bodansky stated that Mohammad Mansour Jabarah, aka Abderraouf Jdey, used a shoe bomb to bring down American Airlines flight 587, bound from JFK to the Dominican Republic. This crash occurred on November 12, 2001, two months after 9/11. In this crash, just like in the case of TWA 800, there were predictions of an “incident” by Islamists, and eye witness accounts were not consistent with the “official government findings” as to the cause of the crash. (2)

U.S. Intelligence received a threat specific to Veteran’s Day
Veteran’s Day fell on Sunday, November 11th (in 2001) and the holiday was observed on Monday the 12th, the day FL587

crashed.  Bill Gertz, writing for the Washington Times on November 13th, had this to say:

One intelligence official said a warning was sent to senior Bush administration officials last week stating that

unidentified terrorists were planning to carry out some type of mass attack on Nov. 11 – Veterans Day . . . the

intelligence report about the possible attack was specific enough to raise concerns, this official said.  A second U.S.

official confirmed that there were “some reports that something might happen in connection with Veterans Day”.

Of further interest, in light of Jabarah’s revelations about Jdey (the alleged FL587 shoe bomber), is this statement from

Gertz:

The warning originated in a North African nation that in the past had been associated with international terrorism.

Gertz did not identify the North African nation.  The alleged FL587 shoe bomber, Abderraouf Jdey, was known to Al Qaeda

as Farouk the Tunisian.  Tunisia is on the North African coast.  The link to North Africa from this pre-November 12th

intelligence along with the information about Farouk the Tunisian is interesting, and perhaps more than a coincidence.

In his book “Chechan Jihad”, Bodansky points out that the liquid explosives that were used to bring down 2 Russian airliners on  August 24, 2004, were probably the same explosives used to bring down American Airlines flight 587. (My comment: probably TWA 800, as well.)

An especially telling fact, brought out by Bodansky, Bill Gertz (2), and Professor Jonathan Turley in Testimony before the Subcommittee on Aviation, Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure (3), is that the FAA issued an information circular, on December 11, 2001, one month after the American Airlines flight 587 crash, but almost 2 weeks before Richard Reid’s attempted to bring down American Airlines flight 63, stressing that shoes should be inspected for possible weapons or devices. Sure, it could be pure coincidence, but I do not believe in coincidences. I think the government knew that American Airlines flight 587 was brought down by a bomb,and knew, or  speculated, that it might have been hidden in a shoe, and thus they issued that circular.

Interestingly, the FBI issued a BOLO for Jdey, http://www.fbi.gov/terrorinfo/jdey.htm, but he has not been found. (Of course, if he did blow up American Airlines flight 587, he would not be found. (DUH) They only know that he attended terrorist training camps in Afghanistan, and was in the lead for a second round of attacks, after 9/11. Some have even suggested that he might have been the person to plant the anthrax, which I find totally plausible. (5) He did create a “martyrdom video” in 2001, and he was reported to be on the second team for al Qaeda aerial attacks in 2001. Kaleid Sheik Mohammed basically gave up on the idea of a second wave of attacks after he realized that Arabs would be targeted after 9/11, and thus refused easy access to the United States for terrorism related activities.

So, now we have a Muslim wack job shoving explosives up his anus (I know, that is redundant), and blowing himself up. I’m not surprised. (And, there may even be documented “experiments” in the field of “Ass Bombs” , since a Muslim was caught a few years ago with a cell phone shoved up his ass. Was that a test run? (4)

Drug smugglers have been swallowing balloons with various drugs in them for years, in an effort to escape detection. I suppose hiding explosives in your body is the next logical step. I can only say that I have a pilot’s license, and thus don’t have to be subjected to airport security. To me, having to remove my shoes was humiliating enough, but I can only imagine what will be coming to airport screening in the future. I used to joke (and I think some airline actually tried it), that the solution was Nude-Air. Just get nude, and fasten your seat belt. Of course, this makes even that absurd, as a solution.

Another part, where it is mentioned that Cass Sunstein states that we should “celebrate tax day”.

And yet more, including an interview with Rush Limbaugh where he speculates that Obama may be destroying the Democratic party, but it is too soon to say for sure. Personally, I think he is. Too many people are now saying “This is not what I voted for!” as the polls demonstrate with his rapidly falling popularity.

And, finally, a speech from 1964 where Ronald Reagan warns us about virtually every thing that Obama is foisting on the country in terms of high taxation, large government, socialism, and communism. One of the best lines in the speech (and there are many of them) is Reagan’s quoting of Senator Clarke of Pennsylvania “(Clarke) defines liberalism as meeting the material needs of the masses through the full power of centralized government”. Reagan’s response: “Well, I, for one, resent it when a representative of the people refers to you and me, the free men and women of this country, as the masses. This is a term we haven’t applied to ourselves in America. But, beyond that, the full power of centralized government! This was the very thing the founding fathers sought to minimize. They knew that governments don’t control things. The government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they know when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve it’s purpose. They also knew, those founding fathers, that outside of it’s legitimate functions, government does nothing as well, or as economically, as the private sector of the economy.” He then goes on with examples. An incredible warning from the grave.
As a personal afterthought. How much better our nation would have fared if Barry Goldwater had been elected as President of the United States, rather than Lyndon Johnson, in 1964! It can be argued that Johnson’s presidency was the socialist camel’s nose under the tent, unfortunately.
