Truly Insightful Words From 1961! Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine

In this audio recording from 1961, Ronald Reagan speaks out against socialized medicine. The arguments for socialized medicine, brought forth by the socialists of the time, were identical to the arguments that we are hearing from the Obama administration in regards to health insurance today. The need for a government takeover of health care was being presented as an “emergency”. He also points out how the government will eventually be able to tell doctors where they must live and work, since some places may have too few doctors, and other too many. Americans would eventually be unable to determine their own destiny! Remember, this recording is from almost 50 years ago, and yet it is true, today, as it was then. Truly insightful words from Ronald Reagan.

The scariest part of the speech comes at the end. Here, Reagan is talking about how government control of health care is, essentially, the camel’s nose under the tent. Then: “Other federal programs that will invade every area of freedom as we have known it in this country, until one day, as Norman Thomas said, we will awake to find that we have socialism. And, if you don’t do this, and I don’t do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our childrens’ children, what it once was like, in America, when men were free.”
